Pops on the River - “A Night at the Movies”

Our season opens with an evening of favorite music from the silver screen. You’ll hear the best from films past and present in a beautiful setting along the Red River. The concert is free and open to the public. Special table seating is also available by calling the Symphony at 442-9709, ext. 1.

Expressions of Harmony

Beautiful, harmonious sounds will fill the Coughlin-Saunders Performing Arts Center during this concert featuring Beethoven’s “Pastoral” Symphony No. 6 and Mozart’s 21st Piano Concerto (K. 467) which features the famous second movement used in the film, “Elvira Madigan”.

The centerpiece of this concert is Johann Sebastian Bach’s beautiful solo Cantata No. 82, “Ich Habe Genug”, written for the Feast of the Purification.

Our 42nd season closes with some of the most passionate music ever written for orchestra including Richard Strauss’ “Dance of the Seven Veils”, Mendelssohn’s Violin Concerto, and music from Ravel’s ballet Daphnis et Chloe.

Youth Honor Orchestra

Location City Park - Hibernia Pavilion (Alexandria Zoo)
  The best young musicians from the Central Louisiana Area audition and rehearse with RSO musicians as mentors ending with an annual performance. This lively and casual outdoor setting provides these young musicians with the opportunity to perform for a varied group of listeners both young and old.

RSO Concerto Competition

Location Coughlin-Saunders Performing Arts Center
  The Ninth RSO Concerto Competition will feature the most accomplished young instrumentalists from throughout the state of Louisiana. Winners from both the Youth Division (ages 10-18) and the Young Adult Division (ages 19-25) will be featured soloists at the Symphony's concert in March.
The competition is free and open to the public.
